1) DID Documentary Project by Dr. Kaplan
Dr. Peter Kaplan is working on creating a DID Documentary. He is not affiliated with NL, but contacted our group to see if any DID individuals would be interested in contributing to his work. Please contact him if you are interested in contributing. See his letter and contact info below:

Hi,
My name is Peter Kaplan and I am a psychologist and documentary filmmaker. I am planning to make a film on D.I.D., and would like to see if your organization can help.

Media portrayals of D.I.D. have for too long been sensationalistic, wildly inaccurate, and exploitive. I would like to contribute to changing that by making a sensitive, thoughtful and informative film that communicates to the public the realities of the condition.

Would people from your organization be available to speak over the phone with me sometime in the near future?

Thank you,
Peter

2) Advertising NL
NL no longer seems to have an ad in Many Voices, so “JA” agreed to send them our information again.

We also discussed figuring out ways of getting information out about NL, since if 1% of the population has DID (these numbers are seen consistently), then there are 80,000 people in NYC alone who would be eligible to come, and it seems unlikely that they just aren’t interested in NL. We agreed that just putting out information about the website is ok; we didn’t discuss doing anything further, other than individuals making a concerted effort to put our name in as many places as we can – especially online (forums and such).

2) Social Connections
Some people in the group are interested in connecting more socially, outside of the meetings. They desire to do fun things like going to museums or the zoo, etc. If you are interested in joining in on some social activity, please register at one of our member’s social connection site to get information about the next social outing: Click HERE to go to the social connections site!!

2) Website Update
The website has been re-done and glitches are still being worked out. All important content is the same, only formatting/style has been changed. The biggest change is having the blog more integrated into our main site now.

3) Meeting Guidelines
We haven’t spent much time revamping these. We still want to simplify them more, but just haven’t taken the time needed to do it yet. There is no real “problem” with the guidelines as-is, so we will get to it when we get to it.

2) Improving our ‘atmosphere’ at meetings
so that new people feel more welcome. We had not been doing introductions before, but we realized that you have to do introductions everywhere else in life, so why not here? It was decided that those who would like, will introduce themselves at the beginning of each meeting when there are newcomers. In addition, if there is a newcomer, one of the regular attenders will take time to check in with the person afterwards, to see how it went for them and get any feedback. Overall, we felt there was a gap in how we welcomed new people, and we want them to feel as welcome as possible.

3) Newsletter Idea
One member wrote in about the idea of starting a NEWSLETTER, so we discussed this idea. Members felt that what we do with the website and blog really encompassed all we do already, and that the work involved in creating a newsletter was something we weren’t ready to take on. However, we as a group are happy to create links from our site to other resources for DD/DID folks. One member is currently working on creating a workbook of sorts (http://workbook.copingincrazyville.com/forum/), and anyone who would like to help in this venture is welcome. Also, let us know if there are resources you are working on or know about that we can post on our site (please keep it related to DD/DID only).
