it wasn’t until i was trying a hypnosis thing to quit smoking that i realized that i’m constantly doing self-hypnosis. i just thought it was part of having a disciplined brain, that you could tell it to do something (say, “wake up well-rested in five hours”) and have it do exactly what it was told.
my guess is that i got good at it because i grew up with situations where hypnotizing myself worked better than any other available option. so i practiced a lot, and then use the skill for all kinds of other things.
